Are you doing what you love everyday? Or, are you like so many athletes and shackled by technology?

Science is a beautiful thing and training techniques have come a long way in every sport..  But, many athletes are getting lost and are losing sight of our own most natural and intuitive computer, our bodies.  In a world inundated with information we are losing perspective and relying on outside influences more than our own intuitive, connected gifts.  Numbers are a great baseline and can be useful, certainly.  But as a Soul▼Sport▼Athlete the goal is to feel good, to be connected to our body, mind, soul, and disconnect from our daily grind. The soul is being sucked out of our sports by constantly quantifying them.  In every sport, burnout rate is high, needs are not truly being met and injuries are prevailing.

Take cycling. In a recent New York Times article by Ian Austen, Karel Bergmann, a manager from 4iiii who is traveling with the Etixx-Quick Step team, acknowledged that, price aside, power meters are not for every cyclist. “Don’t become a victim of the numbers,” he said, noting that the brain is good at interpreting the body’s signals about exertion. “You always have to read your body. Why do you want to discharge all this very sophisticated equipment that we’re born with?”  The article resonated with many athletes talking about their own journeys from science to soul.

As a professional athlete in a variety of sports for the last 20 years, I have tried it all but what I rely on most is being in tune with my own body. My own rhythm. I was always attracted to training through instinct. I enjoyed testing my skills, focusing on being well balanced in life and in sport. There is success in this method and it comes with a deep gratitude for the complex system that nature has given us. Learn how to tap in, find new practices, combine the best of science with self-awareness. Have fun again, and reach a higher plain of consciousness while doing it.

So, are you really doing what you love everyday?  For the right reasons?  Are you connecting by disconnecting with the superficial world? Are you tapping into your greater consciousness for your ultimate power as an athlete and in life?  Think about it.
